There was one re-enlistment at the post yesterday for the cavalry.

Colonel Barber, adjutant general's department, is announced as adjutant general of the Missouri.

Captain Tisdall, First infantry, now on leave, is ordered home to await retirement.

Private Whalen, of the Fourth artillery, was tried at Fort Clark and found guilty of desertion and fraudulent enlistment, sentenced to dishonorable discharge and hard labor at Fort Clark for two years.

Now that the "Hayseed club" at Austin has failed to make provision for the encampment of the state national guard in the middle of July, or at any other time this year, the troops here will be spared the sweltering march they generally had to take in the dog days.

First Sergeant McMahon, of company C, Eighth infantry, stationed at Fort Robinson, has been promoted to commissary sergeant and ordered to Eagle Pass. The sergeant received a handsome present of plate from his company on the announcement of his promotion.

The squadron of the Third cavalry stationed at Fort Ethan Allen are rather weary of that post, as nearly all duties are done on skates. They say every other military post has its redeeming qualities but Allen has none. They pine for the sunny land of dear old Texas.

Private Lochner, company H, Twenty-third infantry, has been discharged.

James Douglas, company F, Twenty-third infantry, has been discharged without honor.

Unless the Legislature of Arkansas makes ample provisions for the maintenance of the National guard of the state, Lieutenant Sample, Fourteenth infantry, serving on the Governor's staff, will ask to be relieved as soon as he secures his promotion to a first lieutenancy, as it is impossible for him to make any headway in the work of improving the guard without proper financial assistance from the state. An appropriation of $10,000 was asked for.
