St. Louis, July 17.—Nine fatal cases of sunstroke occurred yesterday afternoon and to-day, and more than double that number of persons are prostrated by the heat. The weather continues intensely warm. The mercury at 8 p.m. to-day stood at 93 in the shade. A heavy thunder storm passed over the city to-night, however, which has materially lowered the temperature.
RUN OVER.—Nashville, July 17.—Samuel C. Davison, Esq., an old citizen, was run over by a passenger train and instantly killed, while crossing the railroad in his buggy near the Chattanooga depot, on Church street, about three o'clock this afternoon.
KILLED.—This afternoon at Vincent station, Ohio, by an accident on the Marietta & Cincinnati railroad, a fireman, Ed Brown, and a brakeman, name not ascertained, were killed. Advices give no particulars.
SADLY BURNED.—Philadelphia, July 17.—While inflating a balloon last evening, the canvas took fire and the aeronaut was badly burned.
STRUCK BY LIGHTNING.—New Orleans, July 17.—A negro carpenter, while working on a roof at the corner of Esplanade and Franklin streets, was killed by lightning at noon.
STORM.—Cincinnati, July 17.—A severe storm of thunder and lightning and rain at 6 o'clock this p.m.
