The roof of the town hall in Barre fell in, about two o'clock on Wednesday morning, under the weight of snow upon it, with a crash which startled the sleeping villagers for some distance around.

The entire roof, which was nearly flat, gave way, with the exception of a small portion at one end, and fell through to the second floor. No damage was done to the first story, occupied by a store and the post office.

The man in charge of the building is much blamed, the snapping of an iron rod and settling of a roof timber having given a distinct intimation of the coming disaster.
