1 min readMr. J. W. Madden, the newly appointed secretary of state, will qualify today. He announced yesterday that he had appointed Mr. W. J. Bowie of Waxahachie as one of the first assistant clerks in the office, vice Mr. McLean, resigned. The newspaper crowd will be much in evidence in the department of state, as Mr. Madden was formerly of the Crockett Economist, Chief Clerk Collum of the Garland News, and Mr. Bowie is managing editor of the Waxahachie Enterprise.
