The report of the condition of the New Orleans exposition, which Director General Burke was instructed to make to the President and to Congress, has been made public at New Orleans. It gives a financial showing of which the following are the totals: Receipts from stock and gifts, [...]; government loan, [...]; installation, [...]; gate money, [...]; expenditures, [...]; deficit, [...].
The report narrates the history of the enterprise to indicate the manner in which the expenses were incurred. The railroad to the grounds cost the management [...]. Delay and bad weather increased the cost of construction and installation by rendering necessary a great increase in the force of employes. The management assumed the expenses of handling large amounts of material intended for exhibition.
The stormy weather, the report adds, greatly reduced the attendance, cutting off from $5,000 to $10,000 a day of anticipated receipts.
