GUILFORD, Vt.

The funeral services of the late General E. W. Phelps were held in Christ church, Guilford, yesterday forenoon, and were characterized by that same singularity which marked the life of the general.

Among those present were Col. William Austin, James K. W. Clarke, James Dalton, H. N. G. Osborne, David Abbott of Brattleboro, Alvin Weatherhead, Chauncey Bullock, Jerry Noyes and Alfred Brown of Guilford. The American flag was thrown over the plain black casket. The burial service was said by Rev. W. H. Council, rector of St. Michael's church, East Dover, and he also preached the funeral sermon.

After the services the body of the late general was taken up to the town road's late home, where it is to be kept until Monday, in accordance with a wish of the general's that his body should not be buried for ten days after death. On Monday the remains will be taken to Brattleboro and placed in a tomb until spring, when they will be buried beside his mother in the cemetery in Guilford. Besides his wife and his immediate relatives, a half brother and a nephew from Baltimore, together with the general's cousin, Mr. Phelps of Townshend, followed the remains from the church.
