In view of his invitations to Canada and of information that Mr. McDonald, the Dominion Minister of Justice, would not molest him he recently wrote to Secretary of State Frelinghuysen to ask if his United States citizenship would protect him in Canada. The Secretary referred his application to the home office at London, and Mr. O'Reilly also wrote to that office himself. The reply was, as has been stated, that if caught on British soil he would be taken back to England and imprisoned.
