The Very Rev. John Carbe, Vicar-General and director of the Sisters of Providence, died at Mr. Miller's, of the Woods, near Terre Haute, Ind., early in the morning of June 2, 1872. The loss of Father Carbe is a severe blow to the diocese of Vincennes.

Miss Moore, a daughter of Judge Van Trump, of Lancaster, and General ------ Smith, a distinguished officer during the late war, were lately received into the Church—the former making her first Communion at St. Mary's Convent, and the latter at the Cathedral.—Cincinnati Telegraph.

The Charleston papers chronicle, in feeling terms, the death of Rev. Timothy Birmingham, D.D., Vicar-General of the diocese of Charleston, which occurred in New York on the 11th inst. Dr. Birmingham was well known in Columbus, Columbia, Charleston, and other cities, where he officiated in the ministry for many years. He was in the seventy-fifth year of his age.
